How to search Want to contribute or make a comment?
The search is restricted to those events specified by the search criteria.
Any search field or box may be left blank. Blank search fields or boxes do not restrict the search.
States
Check the States about which you want to see events. Clicking on a check box that is checked will uncheck it.
"All American States" refers to those events that are related to all States of the Americas (e.g., the Monroe Doctrine).
If you check more than one box and the "ALL of the boxes checked" button at the bottom is on, only those events related to every one of the States that you have checked will be displayed. If you check more than one box and the "AT LEAST ONE of the boxes checked" button is on, only those events related to at least one of the States that you have checked will be displayed.
For example, if you want events that are related to Chile, including those that are related to all American States, check "Chile", "All American States", and the "AT LEAST ONE of the boxes checked" button.
Start and End Dates
The events displayed will be those whose period from their start date to their end date overlaps the period you specified by entering the start date and end date. If you don't enter dates, then all events matching your other search criteria will be displayed. If you enter a start date but not an end date, then the period is taken to include all dates from your start date on. If you enter an end date but not a start date, then the period is taken to include all dates up to and including your start date.
Type in all four digits of the year. If you enter a year without a month for the start date, that date is taken to mean January 1st of that year. If you enter a year without a month for the end date, that date is taken to mean December 31st of that year. If you enter a year and a month but no day for the start date, that date is taken to mean the first day of that month in that year. If you enter a year and a month but no day for the end date, that date is taken to mean the last day of that month in that year. You can reset a month or day back to blank by clicking on the box and selecting the blank entry. To reset a year back to blank, highlight it and press the backspace key.
Key Words
Key words may appear in any order and do not need to be capitalized. Key words are searched for as whole words unless the key word is (1) preceded, (2) followed by, or (3) preceded and followed by an asterisk '*', in which cases the key word may appear as the whole word or as (1) the end of a word, (2) the beginning of a word, or (3) embedded anywhere within a word.
If you want only those events that contain all of your key words in a particular box, select the "ALL" button for that box. If you want only those events that contain at least one of your key words in a particular box, selecte the "AT LEAST ONE" button for that box. To delete a key word, highlight it and press the backspace key.
